In her first staff memo since being named editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss instructed CBS News employees to apply “equal scrutiny” to both Democrats and Republicans.
Weiss outlined a set of ten core journalistic values, one of which is explicitly to “hold both American political parties to equal scrutiny.” She also expressed eagerness to meet with teams, get feedback on workflows, and elevate CBS News’s credibility.
Meanwhile, Paramount CEO David Ellison sent a parallel memo urging reporters to reject partisan framing and foster respectful debate. He called recent media posturing “too often a platform for amplifying division,” and stressed that the company aims for fact-driven journalism above political bias.
