Charlie Kirk, conservative commentator and Turning Point USA co-founder, was fatally shot during a live event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on September 10, 2025. He was struck in the neck around 12:10 p.m. local time while speaking under an outdoor tent as part of his “American Comeback Tour.”
Eyewitnesses say the shot came from a building about 200 yards from where Kirk stood on stage. Panic broke out immediately in the crowd, with videos showing attendees fleeing as Kirk collapsed and security rushed to his aid.
Initial reports suggested a person of interest had been detained, but police later confirmed that no suspect was in custody. The investigation remains ongoing.
The university closed the campus and suspended classes until further notice. Leaders from across the political spectrum condemned the attack. Former President Donald Trump announced Kirk’s death and described him as “legendary,” while Utah Governor Spencer Cox denounced the killing as a political assassination.
