In a shocking turn of events, a giveaway event organized by social media influencer Kai Cenat at Union Square Park in New York quickly spiraled into chaos. Thousands of his young fans gathered for the real-world meet-up, with the promise of winning PlayStation 5s, computers, and gaming accessories. However, the event was not approved by the city, and the location was only revealed at the last minute.
The crowd size surged beyond expectations, and within half an hour, the atmosphere turned violent. Bottles, rocks, and cones were hurled at police officers, resulting in several injuries to law enforcement and teenagers. The situation escalated rapidly, leading to police deploying the riot squad to contain the mayhem. Videos captured the disturbing scenes of teens vandalizing vehicles, shouting obscenities, and throwing fireworks at police and fellow attendees.
Twitch gamer Kai Cenat was whisked away for his safety as the situation grew out of control. He is currently in custody as authorities consider charging him with inciting a riot. A total of 19 juveniles and nine adults have been arrested so far, with more expected.
The New York Police Department condemned the violence and vowed to hold the perpetrators accountable. Despite their efforts to disperse the crowd, some roaming groups are still causing disruptions around Manhattan. Cleanup efforts are underway to restore the vandalized areas of the popular greenspace. Police have also allowed cars to park near the park again.
The incident has left a dark stain on the usually vibrant Union Square Park, and the community is demanding swift justice for those involved in the violent outbreak. Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry emphasized the need for identifying and holding the troublemakers accountable to prevent such events from recurring in the future.
