During a recent event in California, former NBA star Charles Barkley sparked controversy with his bold statements regarding the Bud Light boycott initiated by some Americans after the beer brand’s collaboration with a controversial transgender influencer earlier this year.

In a passionate address to the crowd, Barkley didn’t hold back, exclaiming, “You know what? I’m gonna do something. I’m gonna buy all y’all a drink, and it’s gonna be Bud Light!” He then addressed those boycotting the beer, saying, “To all you folks out there who don’t want to drink Bud Light, let me tell you something: screw you! Ain’t nobody canceling me!”

Unfazed by any potential consequences, Barkley continued, “Let me tell you this, if they fire me and give me a ton of money, you know what I’m gonna do? I’m gonna be playing golf every damn day. So listen up, listen carefully. If you’re gay, I wish you all the best. If you’re transgender, I wish you all the best. And to those who have a problem with that, well, you can go straight to hell!”

Barkley’s support for Bud Light remained steadfast as he reiterated his message at a golf event. Holding up three cases of the beer, he declared, “I want all of y’all to drink this damn beer! If you’re gay, I support you. If you’re transgender, I support you. And if you have a problem with that, you can go kick rocks!”

Following the controversial collaboration, Bud Light faced significant backlash, resulting in decreased sales and boycotts. Anheuser-Busch, the parent company of Bud Light, saw a substantial decline in market value as the partnership stirred intense debate across various media platforms.

In response to claims made by the influencer about lack of support, an Anheuser-Busch spokesperson emphasized the company’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity and employee welfare.

“As we’ve consistently stated, we are fully committed to our partnerships and initiatives aimed at fostering inclusivity, including within the LGBTQ+ community,” the spokesperson clarified. “The privacy and safety of our employees and partners remain paramount. Moving forward, we will continue doing what we do best—brewing exceptional beer for all, while playing a positive role in the moments that matter to our consumers.”
