Chicago’s Near West Side erupted in urgency Saturday night when a 27-year-old woman was stabbed on the platform of the UIC-Halsted station of the CTA Blue Line in a seemingly random attack. Authorities say the victim was awaiting her train when a man approached and plunged a knife into her chest without provocation.
Surveillance footage shows the suspect—a Black male estimated to be around 6 feet tall and between 160-180 lbs—wearing an orange hoodie, brown jacket, white pants, white sneakers, a pink beanie, and carrying a gray backpack. He fled northbound on South Morgan Street after the assault.
The victim was transported to Stroger Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, where she remained in stable condition. Chicago Police are asking the public for any information that could help arrest the assailant, reminding commuters to stay alert and report anything suspicious in transit areas.
The incident has triggered a heightened law-enforcement presence at the station and surrounding blocks as detectives gather evidence and review video footage. Metro transit officials say they are cooperating fully with the investigation and assessing platform safety measures in response to the stabbing.
