O’Hare International Airport, located near Chicago, one of the busiest airports in the United States, is facing criticism and controversy due to its treatment of migrants being housed there. The number of migrants sheltered at the airport, hidden behind black curtains, has reportedly surged to over 400, a significant increase from the 31 migrants who were reportedly there at the beginning of August. These migrants are shielded from public view.
Reporter William Kelly discussed the situation on the Fox News program “Fox & Friends.” He highlighted that O’Hare Airport serves as one of only 18 migrant shelters in Chicago and emphasized that homeless Americans are no longer permitted to stay at the airport. Earlier this year, the city took action to address the presence of a homeless population at the airport.
Kelly raised concerns about security and background checks for migrants, suggesting that they may not undergo the same screening processes as American travelers. This issue is of particular concern amidst ongoing challenges in Chicago, including crime and the aftermath of coronavirus lockdowns.
Kelly expressed frustration over the lack of transparency regarding the allocation of funds related to the migrant crisis and the difficulty in obtaining answers from the mayor.
The situation has been described as “horrifying on every level,” with growing tensions and challenges for law enforcement tasked with managing the situation. Chicago has struggled to accommodate the influx of thousands of migrants, with buses transporting approximately 14,000 migrants to the city since August. Multiple shelters for asylum seekers are currently operating across the city, and plans are underway to open another shelter on the South Side.
