A man previously convicted of rape and recently released on parole has been arrested for the brutal beating of a 44-year-old mother on Randall’s Island in New York City.
Miguel Jiraud, 30, is accused of attacking Diana Agudelo as she rode her e-bike on May 16. She was later found unconscious with multiple injuries, including facial fractures and significant brain trauma, and remains hospitalized after undergoing several surgeries.
Investigators linked Jiraud to the assault using GPS data from his court-mandated ankle monitor. He had called emergency services himself, claiming he had discovered the woman in critical condition. Authorities, however, identified inconsistencies in his account.
Jiraud had previously served time for a 2011 rape and was released on parole in August 2024. He now faces attempted murder charges. The case has reignited debate over the monitoring of violent offenders post-release and the risks posed to public safety.
