Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sharply criticized President Trump’s ambitious plan to build a lavish, privately funded ballroom at the White House, declaring in a social-media post: “It’s not his house… and he’s destroying it.”
Clinton’s comments came shortly after demolition crews began dismantling part of the East Wing to make way for the 90,000-square-foot facility, pegged at over $250 million and billed as being financed entirely by donors rather than taxpayers. The project has been defended by the administration as a necessary upgrade for hosting global leaders and large events.
Clinton framed the renovation as emblematic of broader concerns: “This is about our shared heritage and the symbolism of the people’s house,” she said, urging voters to view the White House as a national asset, not a personal playground. The release of her post coincided with quick-rising online debate—supporters applauded her stance while critics highlighted renovations made by previous administrations, including her husband’s, calling for consistency rather than critique.
