CNN Analyst Calls Trump ‘Terrorist’, Compares Indictment to Bin Laden’s Death

In a remarkable interview on a major news network, Michael Fanone, a former D.C. Metropolitan police officer and CNN analyst, drew a striking analogy between the recent federal indictment of former President Donald Trump in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot and the killing of Osama bin Laden by the U.S. military.

Speaking with CNN host Laura Coates, Fanone shared that the news of the indictment evoked feelings of pride comparable to those he experienced upon hearing about bin Laden’s demise in 2011. Coates appeared taken aback by the unexpected comparison and probed Fanone about the reasoning behind it.

Fanone stood firm in his belief, explaining that he perceives both events as comparable due to his view of Trump’s actions as acts of terrorism against the American people and the very foundation of the republic. He maintained that bin Laden was a terrorist who perpetrated a horrific act against the nation, and he finds similarities in the actions of the former president.

Acknowledging the gravity of such a comparison, Coates questioned whether such rhetoric might impact public perception of the indictment as a fair and impartial process. Fanone responded by emphasizing that the opinions that truly matter in this context are those of the jurors who will attentively listen to the presented facts during the legal proceedings and ultimately make an informed judgment on Trump’s guilt based on the evidence presented.

The conversation occurred shortly after the Department of Justice Special Counsel, Jack Smith, unveiled the indictment against Donald Trump, charging him with various offenses related to the 2020 presidential election. The charges included conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights. Fanone, having been present during the Capitol riot, also testified before the U.S. House select committee investigating the events of that day, adding significance to his remarks on “CNN Tonight” hosted by Laura Coates.
