Congressman Seth Moulton has voiced serious concern over President Donald Trump’s recent foreign policy remarks, cautioning that such rhetoric could weaken longstanding U.S. alliances and destabilize key security relationships abroad.

In a televised interview, Moulton directly addressed the president’s latest comments, which included the renewed suggestion that the United States pursue acquisition of Greenland and remarks implying that countries like India and Poland need to contribute more significantly to defense partnerships or risk losing American support.

Moulton, a Democrat and member of the House Armed Services Committee, said these statements risk portraying U.S. commitments as conditional and transactional, thereby jeopardizing trust among strategic allies. He warned that leveraging national security cooperation for political messaging or financial gain sends dangerous signals during a time of global uncertainty.

“This kind of rhetoric erodes confidence in U.S. leadership,” Moulton said, noting that America’s influence is built not only on power but on the strength and consistency of its alliances. He emphasized that dismissing diplomatic norms could embolden adversaries and leave allied nations questioning the reliability of American support.

Trump’s defenders argue that the president’s positions reflect a commitment to fairness and fiscal responsibility, urging allied nations to shoulder more of the defense burden. However, Moulton maintains that diplomatic stability cannot be treated like a business transaction, especially when global defense arrangements involve delicate geopolitical balances.

The congressman also pointed to recent tensions in Eastern Europe and the Indo-Pacific, arguing that clear, consistent policy is essential to deterring aggression from nations such as China and Russia. He urged the administration to engage in responsible diplomacy that reinforces—not threatens—U.S. credibility on the world stage.

Moulton concluded by calling for bipartisan cooperation in preserving national security interests and strengthening global alliances, warning that unpredictable statements from the White House could carry consequences far beyond campaign trail applause lines.
