Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, an iconic American restaurant business known for its vintage charm and Southern cuisine, found itself at the center of controversy when it embraced Pride Month by sharing an Instagram photo of a rainbow-painted chair at one of its locations. The move sparked backlash from conservatives who accused the restaurant of being too “woke.”

The unexpected Instagram post left many patrons surprised. Cracker Barrel, with its warm ambiance and affordable prices, had built a reputation around its nostalgic decor and comforting menu. But now, the restaurant was venturing into new territory, celebrating Pride Month and spreading a message of inclusivity.

“We can’t wait to have a party and share the joy of Pride Month with all of our staff and customers. We have an open door policy here in our house (and on our rainbow rocker),” the Instagram message declared, exuding enthusiasm and spreading a message of acceptance.

However, not everyone was pleased. A customer expressed their “shock” at the restaurant’s stance, prompting a response from Cracker Barrel’s Twitter account, affirming their commitment to creating a welcoming and safe atmosphere for all guests. “Thanks for sharing,” the tweet read. “Our staff works hard to ensure that every guest has a pleasant and secure visit so they can spend quality time with their loved ones.”

As the backlash continued, some disgruntled individuals declared their intention to boycott the restaurant. Unfollows and vows to never dine or wear Cracker Barrel merchandise again flooded the comment section, accompanied by crying emojis and the phrase “Go woke, go broke.”

The controversy reached a political realm when Texas Representative Ronny Jackson, a Republican, announced his personal boycott of Cracker Barrel, expressing his disapproval on Twitter. Meanwhile, the Texas Family Project, a conservative nonprofit, shared screenshots of the restaurant’s ongoing efforts to promote diversity and inclusiveness, portraying them as capitulating to the so-called “mob.”

However, amidst the criticism, there were voices of support. Many applauded Cracker Barrel’s dedication to diversity and inclusion, considering it a positive and admirable step. Satisfied customers shared their love for the restaurant and its welcoming environment, appreciating its compassionate gestures.

Cracker Barrel’s commitment to creating a hospitable space was evident in their dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as stated on their website. They emphasized their responsibility to ensure that every team member and guest feels at home, cared for, and a sense of belonging. Discrimination, whether conscious or unconscious, had no place within their establishment.

While some praised Cracker Barrel’s stance, others anxiously awaited a response from the company, as media outlets sought comments from the Tennessee-based chain. As the controversy swirled, Cracker Barrel remained steadfast in their commitment to maintaining an inclusive and welcoming environment for all who gather at their table.

In the face of criticism and praise alike, the restaurant stood firm, continuing to prioritize creating a space where everyone feels accepted and valued. The path they chose may have stirred controversy, but Cracker Barrel Old Country Store remained resolute in their mission to please people, foster a sense of community, and pave the way for a brighter, more inclusive future.
