Authorities in Dallas have identified Joshua Jahn, 29, as the gunman behind a deadly sniper attack at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility that left one detainee dead and two others critically injured.
The attack unfolded when Jahn positioned himself on a rooftop overlooking the facility and opened fire on a transport van carrying detainees. One man was killed instantly, while two others sustained severe injuries and remain in critical condition. No ICE employees were struck during the shooting.
Shortly after the assault, Jahn turned the weapon on himself, dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators later found an unused shell casing at the scene engraved with the words “ANTI-ICE,” which officials believe may reveal the shooter’s motive.
Law enforcement agencies, including Homeland Security and local police, are now examining Jahn’s background, reviewing his online activity, and looking into possible ideological influences. Authorities confirmed that while he did not have a significant criminal record, early findings suggest he harbored anti-government and anti-ICE sentiments.
The incident has heightened concerns about targeted attacks against federal facilities and reignited debate over immigration enforcement in the United States. Officials have since increased security around ICE offices nationwide while the investigation continues.
The victims’ identities have not been released, pending notification of families. ICE confirmed that resources are being provided to the injured detainees and their loved ones as authorities work to piece together the full scope of Jahn’s actions and motives.
