Dean McDermott recently opened up about his separation from actress Tori Spelling, providing insight into the factors that contributed to the breakdown of their relationship. Speaking from a rehab center in Los Angeles to Daily Mail.com, McDermott expressed deep remorse for the pain he caused Spelling, citing his struggles with addiction as a key factor.

McDermott, who became emotional during the interview, recalled the events of October 28, 2022, when he attacked Spelling, leading to their split. He acknowledged that alcoholism and drug addiction played significant roles in his behavior, including a fifth of tequila every night and excessive use of prescription medications. This addiction led to rages that terrified Spelling and their children and left her checking on him to ensure he was still alive.

Despite undergoing rehab in the past, McDermott admitted that he relapsed in 2017, contributing to ongoing marital issues. He also revealed that the couple’s long-standing financial struggles and Spelling’s unconventional choice of pets, including a pig, dogs, and a chicken in their bedroom, added to their troubles. McDermott’s decision to move to a different room due to the living conditions in their bedroom marked a turning point in their relationship.

McDermott described their marriage as more like a cohabitation, with increasing isolation on both sides and rare family meals together. He acknowledged his role in the relationship’s decline and the loneliness he felt despite being in a house full of people.

His decision to announce their separation on Instagram, a post he later admitted was made while intoxicated, prompted Spelling to encourage him to seek treatment again. McDermott spent 40 days in rehab and is currently in a sober living home, having been apart from Spelling and their children for over four months. He has recently started texting Spelling and hopes to reconnect with his children.

Reflecting on the challenges of parenthood, living in a high-pressure environment, and financial difficulties, McDermott took responsibility for his part in the relationship’s end. Despite the separation, he expressed enduring love and respect for Spelling, wishing her happiness and love. The candid interview sheds light on the personal struggles that contributed to the couple’s highly publicized split.
