Several members of the Democratic Party have expressed concerns about President Biden’s strategy for his 2024 reelection campaign, given his waning popularity in recent polls. This apprehension echoes earlier critiques from some progressive circles, including remarks from a past aide of First Lady Jill Biden. Despite these worries, Biden’s campaign team has not yet introduced notable changes in their approach.

Senator Bernie Sanders, an Independent from Vermont who aligns with the Democrats, is among those voicing concerns. He highlighted the Israel-Hamas conflict as a factor diminishing Biden’s appeal, particularly among younger voters. “There’s a clear difficulty in rallying young people and many Americans around the current situation. President [Biden] needs a new direction,” Sanders commented during a CNN interview.

Former House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer from Maryland, along with other Congressional Democrats, has signaled unease. While acknowledging the achievements of Biden’s administration, Hoyer emphasized the necessity of conveying these successes more effectively to the public. He expressed a desire for a successful campaign: “We have our worries. We’re aiming for victory,” Hoyer stated.

Representative Bennie Thompson from Mississippi shared his discomfort with the campaign’s direction, calling for increased diversity within the team. “Those of us who supported Joe Biden’s presidential bid feel uneasy with the current developments,” Thompson remarked, advocating for more representation of people of color, Latinos, and Asians to enhance the campaign’s outreach.

Michael LaRosa, a former key aide and spokesperson for Jill Biden, has openly criticized the president’s team for his slipping poll numbers and suggested a revamp in his circle of aides. Together with strategists like David Axelrod and James Carville, LaRosa has voiced concerns about Biden’s reelection chances, recommending a more dynamic and engaging campaign.

James Carville, commenting on Biden’s declining approval ratings, labeled them as “worrisome” and reflective of voter concerns. “These numbers are impossible to ignore, and they do raise alarms,” Carville said in a CNN appearance.

As the 2024 elections draw closer, Biden confronts a challenging landscape with several polls indicating his diminished popularity. The strategy and messaging of his campaign are being critically assessed by members of his own party, underlining the obstacles he faces in his bid for reelection.
