The once unyielding wall of silence among Democrats regarding Hunter Biden is starting to crumble, as a prominent congressman, Rep. Jim Himes (D-Connecticut), openly acknowledged that President Biden’s troubled son should be held accountable if he broke the law.
In a surprising statement during an MSNBC interview, Rep. Himes stated that if Hunter Biden indeed violated the law, he should face prosecution for offenses related to taxes and potential ownership of a handgun. He emphasized that this is a departure from the Republican stance during the Trump administration, where they didn’t openly call for former President Trump’s prosecution.
However, Rep. Himes clarified that there is currently no evidence suggesting that President Biden was involved in any crimes alongside his son. He stressed that any claims of collusion or participation by the president would require a separate investigation and merit a different conversation.
Nevertheless, House Republicans, led by Speaker Kevin McCarthy, are contemplating an impeachment inquiry over allegations of corrupt business dealings between the Biden family and foreign entities. The recent revelation by The Post, where a key witness claimed Hunter Biden frequently connected his father with foreign business associates, has heightened their concerns.
Despite a plea deal that seemingly protected Hunter Biden from prosecution for other potential crimes related to his business dealings, the agreement collapsed after a Delaware federal judge raised questions about its terms. This has left the first son under federal investigation, and he has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor tax counts.
As attorneys and prosecutors negotiate a revised agreement, the White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, had to address concerns that President Biden would pardon his son if the new plea deal doesn’t materialize, and Hunter is convicted.
With the Democratic “wall of silence” slowly eroding, and mounting pressure from House Republicans, the Biden family’s business affairs continue to be a subject of intense scrutiny and political contention.
