Katie Porter, a Democrat from California and a state senator, said on ABC’s “The View” on Monday that “Congress can and should absolutely police the Supreme Court.”
Ana Navarro said this about Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas when asked about him: “Clarence Thomas is being criticized for allegedly taking expensive trips from a wealthy conservative donor of mine without telling anyone.” There is a rumor that a rich person helped the judge by buying a lot of houses. Even though he promised to update his financial disclosure form to include details about the real estate deal, his critics are still calling for him to step down. The question is how to keep the Supreme Court running smoothly.
Porter says that the Supreme Court should and could be watched over by Congress. Congress has the most power in the United States of America. Neither the president nor the Supreme Court has more power. That’s because we’re the only ones who can talk directly to the general public. Every two years, the people decide if we should keep our jobs. Congress could make the Supreme Court follow a code of ethics. Before that time comes, we need to make sure that, in light of our past mistakes, our congressional ethics rules have been made stronger. The hero does something wrong, then says, “Oops, I’ll tell you about it later.” This lets the bad guy get away without getting hurt. People stop believing their government, and as a result, they start to think that their leaders are dishonest.
