House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and his Republican colleagues crafted a package to reduce the debt ceiling and reduce spending, and President Biden, members of his cabinet, and Democrats on Capitol Hill have been doing all in their power to oppose it.
Last Friday, Karine Jean-Pierre insisted that Americans’ children’s lungs would be poisoned and their bones melted because of the House GOP’s plan to raise the debt ceiling as much as necessary to avoid a default while rolling back spending to FY2022 levels from just four months ago. The assertions she made last week and the ones she made this week were both complete and utter rubbish.
See, there’s this major issue with the Biden administration and legislative Democrats’ assaults on McCarthy’s “Limit, Save, Grow Act” spending levels: Those same Democrats were ecstatic with the FY2022 budget they helped establish. The amount of expenditure was so well received that a continuing resolution was enacted to maintain it through the end of the fiscal year (Sept. 30 – Dec. 30).
The FY2022 funding package, which Biden signed into law, established thresholds at which McCarthy’s proposal would once again place a ceiling. This measure, the president added, “sends a clear message to the American people that we’re investing in the safety, health, and future of Americans.”
Vice President Biden went on to say that the budget for Fiscal Year 2022 “would make education and housing more affordable for American families, support law enforcement, give veterans world-class healthcare, put mental health and drug treatment at the top of the list, deal with the climate crisis, and advance American leadership around the world.”
