Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is popular among Republicans, but Democrats are already labeling him “radical” before he has even declared his candidacy for president in 2024.
Of course, if their assaults succeed in raising DeSantis’ national profile, it will just give him more opportunities to win over moderate and conservative Republicans.
A Republican strategist has implied that Democrats are “absolutely terrified” of DeSantis because as long as [President] Joe Biden is in office, they should be afraid of any Republican who runs.
The words “in this case” have multiple interpretations. Some view this as a fight to the death between rival Democratic factions, while others regard it as a struggle for control of the party. About the latter, “a leading member of the party remarked” that the Democrats are aiding the candidate they wish to defeat the most. The winner of the Republican primary will be decided by voters who identify themselves as Republicans.
DeSantis is now attacking the Democratic Party. When the first Republican caucus is finally conducted in Iowa in a little over a year, you can count on it having a lot of buzzes. DeSantis’s first stop on his book tour was here.
When he elaborated on their strategy on Friday, he said, “We said, “We’re going to go on the offensive in all of these ways.
A few Republicans, the author claims, “sit back, let the Left define the terms of the debate, let the media define the terms of the debate, and then they simply sit there, defensively.”
His main point was that “many elected leaders don’t want to have to make decisions.” It’s prudent to wait until tensions rise before taking action, but that’s not leadership. Our response was to launch an offensive.
Both DeSantis’ prepared remarks and his chat with Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds were discussed by White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre in response to a question about DeSantis’ pride in Florida being the location where “woke goes to die” (R).
“When conservatives on the extreme, like the “MAGA” Republicans, disagree with a program or legislation, they don’t bring up something that might spark a civil debate. They shift the conversation to how “woke” they are, “…she explained. This contradicts prior agreements. That’s why bigotry and prejudice are such common responses.
This Monday, the Democratic super PAC American Bridge 21st Century began a six-figure TV and radio ad campaign in support of Biden and against DeSantis. These advertisements support Biden and attack DeSantis. To influence voters in four crucial presidential swing states, the 60-second commercial is airing in such areas in Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. In it, Biden is seen as “fighting” against “extreme” Republicans like DeSantis and Trump.
According to American Bridge 21st Century president Pat Dennis’s comments in the Washington Examiner, “Floridians are suffering under Ron DeSantis’ poor leadership.” His perspective plans to run for president should be made known to the American people.
He claimed that Governor DeSantis was more concerned with “fake cultural war narratives” than with Florida’s economic well-being. We’ll be fighting him from the get-go because his far-right views are repugnant to the women voters who will ultimately decide this election.
Senior consultant at the Center for American Progress Colin Seeberger has said that the radical beliefs of Republican primary voters are “a feature, not a defect.” All the more so for the 2018 midterms. If you’re looking for progressive policy analysis and advocacy, look no further than the Center for American Progress.
Yet, “we also observed that those same ‘MAGA radicals didn’t do well with general election voters,” he said of the states that were expected to be close. In my opinion, the benefits of the Democrats going public early about Ron DeSantis’ extremist ideas outweigh the risks.
The opposition against DeSantis does not stop with American Bridge 21st Century. There have been other like-minded political organizations that have spoken out against him. Seeberger is included in that category.
DeSantis has been pursuing dangerous permitless carry legislation that will endanger lives across the Sunshine State, and yesterday, Giffords began a six-figure ad campaign against him. The campaign consists of radio spots, digital commercials in both English and Spanish, and a full-page ad in the Miami-Herald. They argue that the proposed legislation will allow practically anyone to carry a concealed firearm without a need for a permit or training.
The Democratic National Committee has made it clear they do not like DeSantis, as they have done with every other declared or potential GOP presidential contender. For instance, the Democratic National Committee has hosted media conference calls to update them on the activities of candidates in early-voting states.
Iowa Democratic Party chair Rita Hart said this week that her state and the rest of the country just cannot afford the radical ideals that these individuals are advocating. Hart has little confidence in his ability to predict the Republican nominee.
A State of the State address delivered by DeSantis this week formally opened the 2023 legislative session in Florida. Many speculate that after that he would officially declare his candidacy for president. Over the public address system, he braggadocious told the GOP majority, “You ain’t seen nothing yet.”
He claimed that the outcome of the November elections proved their success. A chance like this doesn’t come around very often, but with great power comes great responsibility. In this, let courage be our ally. There’s a ton of stuff that needs doing.
