On Thursday, it was said that a grand jury in Manhattan had brought charges against former President Donald Trump. In answer, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said right away that his state would not help with an extradition request and questioned the truth of the case.
The Manhattan district attorney’s office is said to have sent a sealed criminal charge against Trump about the hush money payment of $130,000 to porn star Stormy Daniels.
In a statement, DeSantis said that using the court system to achieve a political goal hurts the rule of law. Not very American. The Manhattan District Attorney, who is paid by Soros, has often cheated the system to cut down on major crimes and hide illegal behavior. Now, though, he is trying to use a legal loophole to bother a political opponent.
DeSantis said that Florida would not help with an extradition request because the case involved a lawyer in Manhattan who was backed by George Soros and had a political goal.
A former president of the United States has never been charged with a crime before.
The story says that the grand jury met with the key lawyers on Thursday and was told about the relevant criminal laws before voting. A few hours later, the prosecutors went to the court clerk’s office to start submitting the charge.
The news comes as The Wall Street Journal reports that the office of District Attorney Alvin Bragg has started looking into a $150,000 payment supposedly made to former Playboy model Karen McDougal.
The story says that Trump could face more charges because he allegedly paid McDougal money to keep her quiet. Since the accused players say that Trump played a key role in the deals, prosecutors could use the McDougal information to try to show that the former president followed a certain pattern of behavior, the story says.
David Pecker, the former CEO and editor of the National Enquirer, testified this month that Trump was involved in the payment to McDougal and “a larger scheme” to hide bad stories about Trump during his 2016 campaign for president.
The former president has denied having an affair with McDougal, and his lawyers say he didn’t know about the money.
Trump is in more legal trouble because of a federal investigation into his plans to stay in power after the 2020 election, a Georgia investigation into the same plans, and a third federal investigation into what he did with U.S. government records after he left office.
