DeSantis’ Gender Transition Ban for Minors Blocked By Federal Judge

U.S. District Court Judge Robert Hinkle, known for his controversial rulings against conservatives in Florida, recently blocked the state’s law safeguarding children from potentially life-threatening medical treatments under the guise of “gender-affirming care.”

The legislation, signed by Governor Ron DeSantis, prohibits the prescription of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to minors. However, Judge Hinkle declared that “gender identity is real” and disregarded basic biological science. Despite the FDA’s warning about the serious risks associated with puberty blockers, Hinkle believed that the benefits of these treatments outweighed the dangers.

In his 44-page opinion, Hinkle acknowledged the existence of transgender individuals and supported his decision with evidence. This ruling adds to a series of contentious decisions made by Judge Hinkle, often targeting conservatives in Florida.

Governor DeSantis suspended liberal State Attorney Andrew Warren, funded by George Soros, for disregarding state laws and undermining law enforcement efforts. DeSantis also took action against Warren for refusing to prosecute women who had abortions, as well as doctors performing sex changes, in violation of new legislation.

While Judge Hinkle ruled that DeSantis violated the Constitution, he upheld Warren’s suspension, emphasizing that the governor had misrepresented the attorney’s prosecutorial policies. The case is currently being heard by a federal appeals court in Alabama.

Judge Hinkle also struck down parts of a bill passed by Florida’s Republican-controlled legislature, which required individuals with criminal records to pay outstanding court debts before voting. He argued that this practice violated the constitutional ban on poll taxes, as it excluded nearly 775,000 felons with unpaid fines and restitution from voting.

Despite former President Trump’s victory in Florida during the 2020 election, Judge Hinkle’s decisions have not gone unnoticed in the deeply conservative state. With his latest ruling, the case may eventually reach the U.S. Supreme Court as Hinkle attempts to use federal jurisdiction to override Florida’s legislation aimed at protecting children from dangerous medical procedures.

Governor DeSantis’s administration strongly disagrees with Judge Hinkle’s ruling, vowing to continue the fight against what they perceive as “rogue elements in the medical establishment” prioritizing ideology over evidence and potentially harming children.
