DeSantis Reveals He Might Pardon Trump And Jan 6ers During First Term

In a recent interview, Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis made a noteworthy statement, expressing his willingness to grant a pardon to former President Donald Trump if the evidence revealed that Trump had been targeted for political reasons.

During his appearance on “The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show,” DeSantis disclosed his intention to establish a pardon review team immediately upon assuming office.

These remarks come at a time when Trump is the subject of two federal investigations—one investigating his handling of classified government documents and the other examining his alleged attempts to influence the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.

During the interview, DeSantis was asked if he believed that individuals involved in the January 6 events deserved a thorough examination of their cases under a Republican president. The question also touched on the possibility of pardoning Trump if he were to face federal charges based on emerging evidence.

DeSantis acknowledged the actions taken by the FBI and the Department of Justice, noting instances of what he viewed as overreach, such as targeting parents attending school board meetings and failing to address attacks on pro-life demonstrators. He emphasized his commitment to granting pardons to those who had been victims of political weaponization or targeted unfairly, stating his intention to exercise this authority early in his presidency rather than waiting until the end.

DeSantis stressed the importance of ensuring a fair and just application of the law, highlighting the need to address situations where justice has been unevenly administered. He emphasized that pardons would be considered on a case-by-case basis, aiming to rectify instances where the government had been used oppressively. While DeSantis acknowledged that some incidents may not gain widespread attention, he underscored the importance of providing an impartial hearing to those who have been treated unfairly.

When asked about the scope of the review, DeSantis clarified that any instance of political bias or weaponization, regardless of its magnitude, would be subject to careful examination and consideration for a pardon. He specifically addressed the potential pardon for Trump as part of this comprehensive review.

By making these statements, DeSantis outlined his commitment to addressing political targeting and ensuring equal treatment under the law, signaling his intention to grant pardons when warranted and in a timely manner.
