Jason Johnson wrote for MSNBC that the state of Florida is famous only for “crystal meth and alligators.”
The official Twitter account for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis fired back at an MSNBC guest host who said that DeSantis’ popularity among voters would be low since Florida is “all crystal meth and alligators.”
MSNBC contributor @DrJasonJohnson was asked what springs to mind when he hears “Florida,” and he replied, “crystal meth and alligators.”
“The excellent doctor would know all about it, seeing as he flew to Florida to promote Andrew Gillum and was afterward caught stoned in a hotel room,” the DeSantis War Room tweeted.
MSNBC contributor Jason Johnson claimed on Tuesday’s “The ReidOut” that DeSantis would lose support from those outside of Florida if he ran for president.
“Maybe you’ve had enough of Florida’s crystal meth and alligators. That’s what the masses think,” So that I may paraphrase Johnson: “By the way, that is not what I am arguing. What I’m trying to say is that each of these countries has its own distinct culture.”
That’s why it’s concerning that Ron DeSantis is running for president and promising to accomplish for the United States what he’s already done in Florida, he said.
The host was attempting to explain why some voters would see a presidential candidate less favorably because of the state they call home.
“In my opinion, securing victory in these three states is crucial to achieving national success. Being a liberal means you’re too crazy to survive in New York, therefore you’ll have to leave soon. You ditch the Golden State because you’ve gone completely over the deep end, gone liberal, and are too busy trying to prevent me from using plastic straws to enjoy life.” And here’s a remark from Johnson:
After losing to Ron DeSantis in Florida’s gubernatorial race in 2018, Andrew Gillum, the mayor of Tallahassee, took a post at CNN. Gillum entered into rehab in 2020 after being discovered comatose in a Miami Beach hotel room with two other guys and a large quantity of what officials believed to be crystal methamphetamine. Yet while he admitted to having alcohol issues, Gillum said he had never taken drugs.
It has been speculated that DeSantis may seek the presidency in 2024, however, he has not officially announced his intention to do so.
Johnson tried to back up his claim by showing a video in which DeSantis allegedly vowed to maintain funding for Florida’s police departments. Johnson also brought up a video in which the governor is heard saying that he wants the country as a whole to succeed, not just his state.
