Now more than ever the liberal left want you to believe that the United States has the highest rate of mass shootings in the world! The problem? It’s not true.
Even Obama tried taking it on, saying once in 2015: Let’s be clear: At some point, we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries,” Obama said.
Sen. Harry Reid echoed these comments. “The United States is the only advanced country where this kind of mass violence occurs,” he said.
A study of global mass-shooting incidents between 2009 and 2015 show that the United States does not, in fact, lead the world in the number of mass shootings… in fact, between those years we weren’t even in the top 10 when you measure the death rate per million population from mass public shootings.
WHAT?! Yup, you read that right. It’s like a “pound for pound” situation. We may have had plenty of mass shootings between those years (The Obama era mind you) but when you look at it statistically, nope.
The question now is… who is on top? The answer, surprisingly, is Norway.
By the numbers, the mass shooting death rate in Norway is 1.888 per million. Next, Servia at 0.381, France 0.347, Macedonia at 0.337, and Albania at 0.206. Slovakia, Finland, Belgium, and Czech Republic all follow. Then comes the U.S., at No. 11, with a death rate of 0.089.
And on the whole, there were over 25% MORE casualties between 2009 and 2015 per mass shooting in the European Union than in the U.S.
“There were 16 cases where at least 15 people were killed,” the study said. “Out of those cases, four were in the United States, two in Germany, France, and the United Kingdom.”
“But the U.S. has a population four times greater than Germany’s and five times the U.K.’s, so on a per-capita basis the U.S. ranks low in comparison — actually, those two countries would have had a frequency of attacks 1.96 (Germany) and 2.46 (UK) times higher.”
These are all tragic, and I hate that they happened… I’m trying to demean our own tragedies or theirs but MORE gun control is not the answer… CLEARLY.
