A recent survey conducted by Rasmussen Reports in late September highlights Disney’s ongoing struggle to win favor among conservative Americans, mainly due to perceptions that the company has embraced “woke politics.” The survey reveals a significant political divide in how Disney is viewed.
Among Republicans, approximately 60% have an unfavorable opinion of Disney, with a notable 35% expressing a “very unfavorable” view. In contrast, only 32% of Republicans view Disney favorably, while 61% hold an unfavorable view.
On the other hand, Democrats have a much more favorable view of Disney, with 61% viewing it positively and only 29% unfavorably.
The survey suggests that Disney’s perceived involvement in “woke politics” has a direct impact on its popularity, particularly among conservatives who express strong disapproval.
A previous survey from March 2022, conducted during a period of controversy between Disney and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, showed similar results, with 64% of Republicans expressing an unfavorable opinion of Disney.
Disney’s most favorable polling performance in recent times occurred in March when 54% of Republicans viewed it unfavorably.
These survey findings underscore that Disney’s political stance appears to have cost the company significant support among conservative audiences, potentially affecting its financial performance.
This aligns with a broader trend seen in recent polls, indicating that more Americans believe companies should stay out of politics, and businesses should avoid taking political positions. Disney’s commitment to progressive politics, partnerships with activists like Colin Kaepernick, and efforts to incorporate LGBTQ+ representation into its content have contributed to its reputation among conservative audiences.
Therefore, Disney’s relationship with conservative consumers and its financial performance may continue to be influenced by its involvement in political and social debates.
