Carter Page is suing everyone in sight and many who are hidden over the Steele dossier paid for by the DNC and the Clinton Campaign. The DNC included. But, the DNC has a shake your head answer to the lawsuit. They claim the dossier is largely true? What exactly is true? Every word of it has been debunked including “a” and “the”. Both the Mueller report and the report from the DOJ IG have pretty much established that the dossier was a propaganda sheet.
Yes, Page admitted to meeting with Russians but he was also working with the CIA to ferret out Russian criminals. The FBI knew this because the CIA sent them a memo on it, which the FBI promptly hid from sight and refused to apprise the FISA court about. But, the main allegation that Page met with Russian Kremlin insiders, Igor Sechin and Igor Diveykin on a trip to Moscow. There is no proof that he did and he has denied the allegation from Day One.
Even Steele’s alleged source for the dossier denied that is what he told Steele and he accused him of embellishing the entire thing. It would be interesting to see if the DNC lawyers try to use that lame excuse during the trial. If they do it will pump up the number Page will receive from the DNC for defamation.
The DNC’s lawyers claim that Page has acknowledged that he “had significant business and political ties to Russia.”
“Consequently, Page’s own allegations demonstrate the substantial truth of statements that Page traveled to Russia and met with associates of the Russian government,” the lawyers said. “Plaintiffs’ defamation claims should be dismissed based on that basis alone.”
While Page has acknowledged doing business in Russia in the past and knowing some officials in the Russian government, he has vehemently denied the specific allegations in the dossier.
Steele claimed that Page worked with Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort to maintain relations with the Kremlin. Steele also wrote that Page came up with the idea of using WikiLeaks as a conduit to release emails that Russians stole from the DNC.
