DOJ Moves To Restrict Trump’s Access To Classified Documents

According to recent reports from The Hill, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has requested a protective order to prevent the release of classified documents that will be discussed with former President Trump’s legal team following his arrest in connection with records kept at Mar-a-Lago.

The motion filed by Trump, as seen by The Hill, argues that the files in question contain information related to ongoing investigations.

Judge Bruce Reinhart is currently reviewing a motion that would restrict Trump from accessing 31 confidential documents without the presence of his attorneys.

The motion states that the defendants may only access the Discovery Materials while under the direct supervision of their defense counsel or a member of the defense team’s staff. Furthermore, they are prohibited from retaining copies of the Discovery Material, and any notes taken must be securely stored by the defense counsel.

Earlier this month, Special Counsel Jack Smith conducted an investigation into Trump’s alleged mishandling of documents at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, resulting in the former president being indicted on 37 felony charges.

Federal investigators had issued a subpoena demanding the surrender of the sensitive materials, which Trump refused to comply with. The charges against him include conspiracy to obstruct justice, making false statements, and knowingly concealing crucial facts relevant to national defense.

The indictment, filed at Mar-a-Lago, highlighted that Trump’s actions has the potential to compromise national security, international relations, and the well-being of the military, compromise human sources, and undermine the effectiveness of sensitive intelligence gathering methods.

Before his court appearance in Miami this week, Trump took to Truth Social to express his view that the indictment was a “political hit job” orchestrated by President Joe Biden.

In Trump’s own words on the platform, he wrote, “This is truly one of the darkest chapters in our nation’s history. WE ARE A DECLINING NATION!!”
