Over the weekend, former President Donald Trump expressed his frustration towards former Attorney General William Barr for his strong criticism of the 37 federal charges filed against Trump. Barr, who had been a staunch defender of Trump during his presidency and supported him against the indictment from Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, made comments on “Fox News Sunday,” stating that if even half of the allegations in the federal indictment were proven true in court, the former president would be in serious trouble.
Barr described the indictment as highly detailed and incredibly damaging. He emphasized that it would be absurd to portray Trump as an innocent victim in this situation, unlike previous instances where false accusations were made against him. Trump took to Twitter to respond, dismissing Barr’s remarks as misinformation and claiming that Barr was acting out of bitterness due to being fired. Trump also urged people to turn off Fox News, stating that Barr should not be given a platform on the network.
During the interview, Barr argued that the Russiagate controversy was fabricated to undermine Trump with false allegations, but he emphasized that the current situation was completely different. He believed that the government had acted responsibly, providing Trump with multiple opportunities to comply with their requests for documents. According to Barr, they exhibited patience and respect throughout the process, but when they had to resort to subpoenaing Trump, he allegedly misled and obstructed their efforts, resulting in the discovery of additional records.
In another interview on “The Roger Stone Show” on 77 WABC, Trump continued his criticisms of Barr, referring to him as a “low life.” However, when pressed on the matter, Trump refrained from labeling Barr as a member of the “Deep State.”
Trump expressed his disappointment in Barr, describing him as a coward who failed to fulfill his duties. He acknowledged that while his administration had remarkable individuals, Barr was one of the individuals they misjudged and regretted. Trump criticized Barr’s behavior, accusing him of bloviating and acting in a disgraceful manner that was detrimental to the future of the country. Despite his strong animosity towards Barr, Trump stopped short of associating him with the “Deep State.”
Overall, Trump’s response to Barr’s critique of the federal charges was marked by frustration, allegations of bitterness, and a sense of regret for having appointed Barr in the first place.
