Emmer Demands Mayorkas’ Impeachment Over Disturbing Crisis

Tom Emmer, the House majority whip from Minnesota, called for the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Friday, citing Mayorkas’ failure to address the dire situation at the southern border.

Emmer expressed his concerns during an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, highlighting the strained conditions and claiming that the handling of the border crisis represents the “greatest malfeasance” by President Joe Biden’s senior border official.

The disappearance of children and the rising death toll are alarming to Emmer, who also raised concerns about individuals with terrorism-related warrants crossing the southern border.

Emmer’s call for impeachment comes after Biden revoked the Title 42 border barrier implemented by former President Donald Trump, which was aimed at curbing illegal migration under the guise of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the start of the Biden administration, federal statistics indicate that over five million encounters with illegal immigrants have occurred at the southern border.

“This is the most egregious case of malfeasance I have ever witnessed, and malfeasance is not just about inaction; it is about intentional inaction,” Emmer stated, emphasizing his demand for Mayorkas’ impeachment. He believes that serious discussions about impeachment should take place, irrespective of the Senate’s response.

As the third-highest-ranking Republican in the House, Emmer’s remarks represent a significant rebuke from GOP leadership toward Biden’s border overseer. This marks an escalation from his earlier statements, where he acknowledged the possibility of impeachment due to the surge in illegal migration under Biden’s watch.

In March, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy expressed openness to launching impeachment proceedings against Mayorkas, stressing the importance of thorough examination before considering such action.

Emmer stood by his call for impeachment, acknowledging potential constitutional disagreements within his conference but arguing that the law and established precedents support impeachment as a necessary measure.

While some may argue about the definition of high crimes and misdemeanors, Emmer believes this issue deserves serious consideration, highlighting the urgency of the situation and the need for accountability.

Emmer concluded by urging Mayorkas to step down in a dignified manner, expressing his doubts that Mayorkas would willingly resign. In his view, impeachment is the appropriate course of action to address the border crisis effectively.
