A 28-year-old former college cheerleader is facing serious charges after plowing through a police barricade and injuring an officer during a community street festival in Laurel, Maryland.
The suspect, identified as Kai DeBerry-Bostick, reportedly attempted to bypass a roadblock set up for the annual Main Street Festival. According to authorities, she removed a traffic barrier and drove into the closed-off area, putting pedestrians at risk before striking a law enforcement officer who was trying to stop her vehicle.
Bodycam footage shows DeBerry-Bostick telling officers she was late for work in Virginia and needed to pass through. Despite clear warnings from police, she proceeded to drive forward, resulting in the collision.
The officer sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Festival activities were briefly disrupted but resumed after the area was secured.
DeBerry-Bostick was taken into custody and charged with assault and other traffic-related offenses. She remains in custody pending her court appearance.
Officials are now reviewing event safety procedures to prevent future breaches and ensure the protection of both attendees and personnel during public gatherings.
