A former neighbor in Greensboro, North Carolina, described Ryan Routh, the suspect in a thwarted assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, as a “weird” individual with a troubled past. Routh, who has an extensive arrest record in Guilford County that spans several decades, recently made headlines after being arrest at Trump’s golf course in Palm Beach, Florida.

Routh has been charged with a variety of criminal offenses, including the possession of a stolen vehicle and the possession of a felony firearm. Additionally, he has been accused of writing bad checks. In 2002, he was accused of possessing a “binary explosive with a 10-inch detonation cord and a blasting cap.”

Kim Mungo, who resided in the vicinity of Routh in Greensboro for approximately 18 years, recalled his peculiar conduct, claiming that he once maintained a live horse inside his residence. Mungo informed reporters that Routh’s family was eccentric but generally kept to themselves, and that he had a horse in the house.

Mungo described Routh as “a good guy” and “sweet,” despite the peculiar behavior, observing that she had occasionally driven his daughter to school. Additionally, she observed that the family did not exhibit any significant political affiliations.

Mungo reports that Routh relocated to Hawaii and abandoned his North Carolina residence more than a year ago. After his detention in Palm Beach, his neighbors were taken aback by the allegations that he had been involved in an attempted assassination.

Routh’s daughter was under his custody full-time after his divorce in 2003, according to court records. His son resided with his ex-wife. Routh’s former spouse, who has since remarried, was reported to be leading a seemingly ordinary existence. Neighbors observed police activity at her residence subsequent to Routh’s arrest.

Routh has been accused by federal authorities with the possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number and the possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. Subsequent charges may arrive.

The matter has not been addressed by Routh’s public defender.
