Tyler James Robinson, 22, recently arrested over the shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, had in a family dinner talked openly about Kirk. According to the governor, Robinson told relatives he found Kirk “full of hate” and criticized his views before the event.
Robinson’s growing political interest was noted by family members in recent years. They say during that dinner, they discussed why they disliked Kirk and referred to him as someone spreading hate. Robinson also reportedly mentioned Kirk’s upcoming appearance at UVU in those same conversations.
Authorities say that lead—a family member’s account of that dinner—helped prompt further investigation. Along with surveillance footage and online messages, that information contributed to his arrest. Robinson is now charged in connection with the killing and remains in custody.
