Federal agents in Louisiana have taken into custody Mahmoud Amin Ya’qub Al-Muhtadi, accusing him of participating in the Hamas-led assault on Israel on October 7, 2023, and overstating false affiliations to enter the U.S.
According to an unsealed criminal complaint, Al-Muhtadi allegedly joined a militant group, crossed into Israel during the attack, and played an operational role near Kibbutz Kfar Aza—one of the hardest-hit locations. Afterward, he is accused of entering the U.S. in September 2024 using a visa application that denied any terrorist connections.
The Justice Department is charging him with fraud, visa misuse, and providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization. He is now detained in Louisiana awaiting a federal court appearance.
