At least ten FBI agents and analysts who participated in former Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into President Donald Trump’s handling of classified documents have been dismissed.
The terminations were carried out under FBI Director Kash Patel and are believed to be part of an internal review of the bureau’s actions during the Mar-a-Lago documents investigation.
Those removed had been involved in examining Trump’s retention of classified materials after leaving office in 2021, a probe that later resulted in federal charges before ultimately being dismissed following legal challenges.
The firings have sparked concern among some within the agency, with warnings that the move could affect institutional experience and morale.
The decision comes as scrutiny continues over investigative practices related to politically sensitive cases.
