Federal officials are reportedly conducting a criminal investigation into President Joe Biden’s handling of classified material during his time as vice president in the Obama administration and as a U.S. Senator for Delaware. The investigation, led by Special Counsel Robert Hur, has involved interviews with approximately 100 witnesses, including former Biden aides and military aides.
The focus of the interviews has been on the procedures used in handling classified material during Biden’s time in office. While witnesses have reportedly described instances of carelessness, the investigation has not yet concluded whether Biden will face charges.
Witnesses have also been asked about email chains dating back to 2010, the use of cabinets and safes for classified materials, and internal procedures for handling such materials.
Some documents recovered during a search of Biden’s home were from his time as a U.S. Senator. Unlike the investigation into former President Donald Trump’s handling of classified material, where obstruction of the investigation was alleged, Biden appears to have complied with the investigation.
The investigation is ongoing, and no final conclusions have been reached regarding potential charges against President Biden.
