The fiancé of Melissa Horton, a mother-of-three who was shot nearly 20 times by Tennessee officers, expressed outrage that the cops involved were not charged. Horton, who was involved in a domestic dispute over her drinking problems, was stopped by police, and when she appeared to try to drive off, she was surrounded, shouted at, and subsequently shot multiple times. District Attorney Steve Mulroy decided not to charge the officers, citing Horton’s armed response. Horton’s fiancé, Preston Morris, criticized the use of deadly force, stating that the officers didn’t need to “gun her down like a dog.” He believes the officers will have to live with the consequences for the rest of their lives. Friends and family expressed grief and sorrow for Horton’s children and remembered her as a loving mother and a kind person.
