The final meeting of the Reparations Task Force held by the California Department of Justice took an intense turn as attendees made impassioned demands for reparations during the public comment section. Numerous California residents seized the opportunity to address the board directly, raising their voices and emphasizing the immediate need for reparations.

One participant rallied the crowd, encouraging them to raise their fists and chant for restitution. Another attendee stood up and passionately called for a “divorce” settlement between Black Americans and the rest of the country, symbolizing a separation from historical injustice.

The Reparations Task Force meetings served as a platform for California residents to engage in discussions with state officials regarding potential restitution for the perceived inequality endured by African Americans due to slavery and long-standing discrimination.

This final meeting came after the nine-member panel officially recommended that California allocate funds to compensate African American residents who have experienced historical discrimination, with potential reparations reaching up to $1.2 million for eligible individuals.

The atmosphere at the meeting in Sacramento on Thursday was initially charged, with animated attendees expressing their views during the public comment section. A Black woman, the first speaker, emotionally highlighted the unpaid debts owed to her ancestors and expressed gratitude to the task force for their efforts, acknowledging the impact of Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom’s support in reshaping history.

Tensions escalated with the second speaker, Reggie Romaine, a Black man who argued that the recommended payment by the board fell short. He advocated for a divorce-like settlement, asserting that African Americans should receive half the country. Romaine passionately recounted historical injustices, emphasizing the need for repair and accountability.

Following Romaine, another speaker named Donnie Brown energized the crowd, celebrating the cause and praising the task force. He called for attendees who supported reparations to stand and led them in chanting “Reparations!” when asked what they wanted. The room echoed with cries of “Now!” as the demand for immediate action resonated.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Reparations Task Force for comment but is currently awaiting a response regarding Thursday’s meeting.
