If you had told someone just five years ago that a teacher’s union would refuse to teach until moratoriums on rent and mortgage, universal health care, direct income support regardless of immigration status are enacted, you would have laughed til you cried. Today like many others, I just cry. If the decision were mine, I would wait for the first day of school and any teacher that stays home would be making a career decision.
The Durham Association of Educators (DAE) is making these demands and excuse me for saying this, but other than voting for officials who share their opinion, it’s none of their damn business. This is the profession that they chose and if they truly feel this way, then they should resign if called back to work. They claim it is all because of Covid-19 but what does a guaranteed wage for 22 million illegal aliens have to do with the virus? The same thing goes for rent ot mortgage moratorium.
And the other demands that I haven’t mentioned yet is they are demanding the end of charter schools and defunding the police.
UTLA President Cecily Myart-Cruz said:
“It is time to take a stand against Trump’s dangerous, anti-science agenda that puts the lives of our members, our students, and our families at risk. We all want to physically open schools and be back with our students, but lives hang in the balance. Safety has to be the priority. We need to get this right for our communities.”
What a crock of lies. If safety is really what you are worried about, instead of insisting that charter schools close, police get defunded and everyone gets a guaranteed income even if they are are an illegal alien. Wouldn’t they insist on masks and social distancing?
Hear that? It’s the Founding Fathers joining me in a good cry.
