Former Republican Representative Mia Love has died at the age of 49 following a battle with cancer, her family confirmed. Love, who made history as the first Black Republican woman elected to Congress, passed away surrounded by her loved ones.
Love served two terms representing Utah’s 4th Congressional District, where she gained national recognition for her conservative principles and focus on fiscal responsibility, education, and limited government. Known for breaking barriers within the GOP, she was also the first Haitian-American elected to Congress.
Her family shared that she fought cancer privately while continuing to remain engaged in public life and advocacy. Tributes from political leaders and former colleagues poured in, honoring her trailblazing career and dedication to service.
During her time in Washington, Love served on key committees and became a vocal figure in debates over immigration, government spending, and healthcare. After leaving Congress, she remained active as a political commentator and advocate for policies supporting economic opportunity and family values.
Mia Love is remembered not only for her historic achievements but also for inspiring a new generation of leaders. She is survived by her husband and three children. Memorial arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days.
