Five Federal Prosecutors Ousted After Dispute Over ICE Shooting Investigation

Federal authorities in Minnesota have officially terminated five top prosecutors following internal disagreements about how to handle the investigation into the controversial shooting of Renee Nicole Good by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent.

The prosecutors had previously indicated they intended to resign due to disputes with Justice Department leadership over the direction and priorities of the federal inquiry into the case. Instead of accepting those resignations, the department formally fired the officials, who had been involved in broader enforcement work in the state.

The dispute centered on disagreements over how the shooting — and particularly the scope of federal involvement — should be investigated, with some prosecutors calling for a different approach than the one directed by higher-ups at the Justice Department. The FBI continues a parallel investigation into the circumstances of the incident.

The move represents a notable shakeup in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Minnesota at a time of heightened national attention on federal immigration enforcement and legal scrutiny of the fatal encounter in Minneapolis.
