It has begun. Democrats all across the country are already blaming the Russians for losing their elections. The latest but not the last is Sen Bill Nelson of Florida. Nelson claims that the Senate Intelligence Committee told him that Russians had penetrated Florida voting. If he isn’t lying, then the committee knows something that the DHS doesn’t because they say there hasn’t even been an attempt at infiltrating the Florida election.
And unless I’m mistaken, the Intel Committee gets it’s information from them. My best guess is either Nelson is trying for sympathy or that ranking member Mark Warner is up to his old tricks. If there is an intrusion, the DHS promptly notifies the governor and the Attorney General, so they can take steps to stop it.
On Wednesday, Nelson told the Tampa Bay Times, “We were requested by the chairman and vice chairman of the Intelligence Committee to let the supervisors of election in Florida know that the Russians are in their records.”
Nelson added, “They have already penetrated certain counties in the state and they now have free rein to move about.
Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Sara Sendek said that her department was not aware of any breaches in Florida.
“While we are aware of Senator Nelson’s recent statements, we have not seen any new compromises by Russian actors of election infrastructure,” Sendek said, according to The Hill.
Talk about calling Nelson’s bluff. And they did it in a way that they were giving the impression that they were giving his accusations credence and putting it to the committee and the DHS to confirm or deny and let them be the ones to call Nelson a liar.
