During a press briefing, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd made a bold statement by wearing a $50,000 gold bracelet and chain that had been taken from a suspected drug kingpin around his neck. He highlighted a heartbreaking connection with the arresting image: “She died so he could have this drip.”
The sheriff disclosed that 32 suspects involved in a year-long drug trafficking investigation including drugs like fentanyl, cocaine, MDMA, and prescription medications were the source of the gaudy jewelry. Troy Cortez Walker, one of the group’s dealers, is being charged with murder following an overdose fatality.
More than simply bling was discovered during the operation: officers tracked down people with violent pasts, resulting in 554 felony and 394 misdemeanor convictions, and seized $150,000 worth of drugs and several firearms. Sheriff Judd’s message was unambiguous: drug distribution is not a low-level activity, and the community pays a significant price for it.
