Michele Tafoya and Gaines discussed her show on Monday.
Riley Gaines, an advocate for gender parity in sports, met with people on Monday who are working to increase female participation in sports.
Gaines, in a discussion on transgender athletes on “The Michele Tafoya Podcast,” brought up the idea that they may compete against “real” women. Lia Thomas, a former NCAA All-American and University of Kentucky alumnus, has been a strong proponent of gender equality in swimming since she first became aware of the issue in 2021-22.
Brittney Griner, a transgender athlete, has made waves as an outspoken activist in recent years. In the words of one sacked worker at Phoenix’s Mercury Center: “Honestly, putting someone apart for any reason is a crime.” Few female athletes have spoken out against the Protection of Girls and Women in Sports Act, but Megan Rapinoe is one of them.
Among the astonishing 37 athletes who have signed on is Billie Jean King, a trailblazing activist for women’s rights in sports. It’s possible that Billie Jean King’s lobbying was pivotal in passing Title IX. These women are “coming out,” so this is probably their last year of working together. During their conversation, Gaines told Tafoya, “Of course, none of the women I mentioned have daughters to defend.” Tafoya was curious as to whether or not Gaines’s three women all had daughters.
It’s dishonest for guys to claim they should be allowed in the locker room and on the field when they’ve never been given such access in the prior. The women and I are done playing for now. Maintain play until the clock runs out. Even if it’s not a great gesture, ethical and moral people wish to invite male gamers to join our games. The public currently has no other means of gaining access to these records. Title IX was passed so that female athletes might compete on equal terms with their male counterparts.
Gaines’s stances on several federal and state regulations were made quite apparent. Transgender athletes would be required to compete exclusively against members of the same gender under the proposed regulation.
She opened her lecture tour with an explanation of the mistaken belief that had been raised: “And I want to talk about the misunderstanding you brought up, which I’ve seen over and over again, both at the federal and state levels.” All Democrats voted against a bill last week that would have protected women and girls from sexual harassment and violence in the workplace.
Some transgender athletes feel targeted by this law and have expressed their anger about it. There is no protective value, however. It’s vital to me that sports fans of all ages, ethnicities, and genders have the chance to attend these kinds of events. You have completely faulty reasoning. Title IX and other similar state and federal laws were enacted to ensure that students of both genders had equal access to extracurricular sports programs. That’s why we have to go to war with each other. Honesty necessitates it.
Last month, the Biden administration’s plans for Title IX were made public. Their stated goal is to “regulate a recipient’s adoption or application of sex-related criteria that would limit or deny a student’s eligibility to participate on a male or female athletic team consistent with their gender identity.”
With this new rule in place, universities may more easily meet their Title IX requirements and give women equitable access to athletics.
The new regulation states that schools must allow transgender pupils to participate in sports that correspond with their gender identity unless doing so is “substantially related to the achievement of an important educational objective” and “minimizes harms to students.”
The House voted 219 to 203 on April 20 to pass a bill protecting female athletes. In the Senate, only Republicans voted in favor of it.
Republicans supported the law because they believe transgender males should be able to participate in sports without facing discrimination. During the GOP measure’s discussion, some Democrats raised safety concerns for transgender youth.
