After announcing her exit from politics to take a position at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change in London, Sanna Marin, a former prime minister of Finland, has been subjected to criticism over her decision. Marin, a supporter of the Social Democratic Party of Finland, was elected prime minister in 2019 and served in that role until June 2023, when she was unsuccessful in her effort to be re-elected. She had earlier handed in her resignation as a member of Parliament so that she could begin working as a strategic consultant for Blair’s charitable organization. The decision has prompted criticism, with some individuals believing that Marin should have strived for a more ambitious post or remained in Parliament rather than making the change. Her resignation was approved by Parliament, despite the fact that several of her colleagues were critical of how suddenly it was announced.

In the past, footage of Marin drinking and dancing in clubs had made their way around the internet, which led to her gaining international fame for her antics. After becoming the youngest prime minister in the history of Finland at the age of 34 and guiding the nation through the COVID-19 epidemic, she has decided to step down from her position in Finnish politics. During her time in office, she set the record for the youngest person ever to occupy the post of prime minister.

Concerns have been raised by detractors over the timing of her departure, as it came not long after the legislative session had resumed following the summer vacation. Some people have advocated for a reassessment of the regulations that govern the resignations of members of parliament. In Europe, people reacted in a variety of ways to Marin’s announcement that she would be joining the Tony Blair Institute. Some of those people felt that she should have pursued a more influential post.

She mentioned her desire to serve Finland in a different position and address issues like as good governance, technology, climate, and gender equality as her motivations for taking up the post at the nonprofit organization. In addition, she expressed her ambition to work toward gender equality.
