A controversial chyron displayed during Tuesday’s broadcast, which labeled Vice President Joe Biden a “wannabe dictator,” has resulted in the dismissal of a Fox News producer.
Alex McCaskill, a former producer for Tucker Carlson, announced his departure from the network on Instagram. It has been reported that McCaskill was responsible for the chyron that sparked controversy, reading, “Wannabe dictator speaks at the White House after having his political rival arrested,” as stated by the Associated Press.
McCaskill shared his departure from Fox on Thursday, writing, “Today was my last day at Fox. It has been the most exciting 10 years of my life, and I’ve had the privilege of working with the most wonderful individuals there. But now is the time. When I asked them to let me go, they graciously agreed. I will miss everyone there dearly.”
Addressing the chyron on his Twitter show “Tucker on Twitter,” Carlson, who himself parted ways with Fox in April, revealed that top female executives at the network were alarmed by the situation. They initially reprimanded the show’s producer responsible for airing the banner. Carlson praised the producer as “one of the most capable individuals in the building,” but within 24 hours, the producer tendered their resignation.
Continuing his critique of the network, Carlson expressed his belief that an apology for the term used in the chyron was unnecessary. According to the network, the chyron was swiftly taken down and addressed.
Critics promptly accused the network of attempting to regain viewers upset over Carlson’s departure and diminish the impact of the Dominion lawsuit.
It appears that many conservatives, including Carlson himself, took the chyron at face value. However, it is widely acknowledged that labeling Joe Biden a would-be autocrat is unfounded, as his desire to see his political rival imprisoned does not automatically equate to aspiring totalitarianism. Carlson dismissed the notion that merely imprisoning political opponents qualified someone as a “wannabe dictator” and deemed it laughable.
In a related development, Thomas Fox, who also worked with Tucker Carlson at Fox News, reportedly left the network last week.
