Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has announced the suspension of the gas tax in the state through an executive order, blaming President Joe Biden’s economic policies for high gas prices. The gas tax will be suspended from September 13 through October 12, providing immediate relief to Georgia residents by reducing the cost of gas by 31.2 cents per gallon and diesel fuel by 35 cents per gallon.
Governor Kemp attributed the need for this move to “Bidenomics,” which he claims has taken more money out of the pockets of the middle class. He criticized federal spending and policies that have impacted domestic energy production and led to increased gas prices. Kemp’s executive order aims to provide relief to hardworking Georgians facing economic challenges due to rising fuel costs.
The gas tax in Georgia was previously suspended in 2022 when gas prices surged following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The 2022 suspension, which lasted from March through December, saved Georgia drivers an estimated $1.7 billion. Georgia House Speaker Jon Burns supported Kemp’s decision, highlighting the state’s conservative policies aimed at maintaining a strong economy despite national economic challenges.
This move reflects ongoing concerns about rising gas prices across the United States and the impact of economic policies on consumers.
