Geraldo Rivera, a seasoned television reporter, made the revelation on Wednesday morning that he will no longer be a regular on Fox News’s drive-time panel show, “The Five.”
Next week will be Rivera’s last week as a cohost on the show. He has held the “liberal” position on the rotating cohost panel since Bob Beckel and then Juan Williams.
As of this morning, I am no longer employed by @TheFive. Thursday and Friday, June 29 and 30, will be my final scheduled show dates. I’m grateful for the chance to have had such a successful run. It’s not always fun to be the odd man out. “I’m still a Correspondent at Large for the time being,” Rivera wrote on Twitter.
As Rivera admitted, he and regular hosts Greg Gutfeld and Jesse Watters often found themselves on opposite sides of the ideological spectrum during the show’s many heated discussions.
Dana Perino, who is often quite calm under pressure, lost her cool after being provoked by Rivera’s comments during a discussion of the scandal surrounding Border Patrol personnel and their alleged mistreatment of Haitian migrants.
Rivera argued that the photographs showed the Border Patrol mistreating the migrants based on their appearance. While acknowledging his lack of equine expertise, he said, “You must admit when you look at this visual—put up a shot—put up any of the shots of that series—”
Rivera was interrupted by Perino, a ranch-raised man who insisted from the start that the agents were not flogging anyone.
“That’s so wrong!” she shouted in shock. “How can you say that when you’re a lawyer?”
