Candace Owens started a GoFundMe campaign for a cafe in Alabama where the owner criticized the protests over the death of George Floyd. They have suspended her account with the fundraising site. Owens is the leader of the BLEXIT movement of which our own David Harris Jr is also a leader.
Her GoFundMe campaign had raised over $200,000 at the time the campaign was stopped by the fundraising site. Birmingham’s Parkside Cafe’s owner referred to George Floyd as a thug and his supporters as idiots. Floyd died after a policeman had his knee on Floyd’s throat for almost nine minutes. The officer has been arrested and is facing second degree murder charges.
After raising $205,000 in a few hours @gofundme decided to halt my campaign for the Parkside Cafe in Alabama. At their discretion, they deemed that funds raised for a conservative business constitutes “intolerance”
They WILL however give the funds raised thus far to the cafe… pic.twitter.com/Mfw88iDKRi— Candace Owens (@RealCandaceO) June 7, 2020
The founder and co-owner, Michael Dykes, had apparently shared his sentiments about the protests on a text message to a co-worker, who later leaked the text on social media, according to a report by Al.com.
Owens responded by starting a fundraiser for the cafe, which was later suspended by GoFundMe.
In a purported message from GoFundMe, the company told Owens that her fundraiser had been “removed” because it was in violation of its Terms of Service, specifically over the platform’s prohibition on content that it deems “to be in support of hate, violence, harassment, bullying, discrimination, terrorism, or intolerance of any kind.”
“After raising $205,000 in a few hours @gofundme decided to halt my campaign for the Parkside Cafe in Alabama,” tweeted Owens on Sunday. “At their discretion, they deemed that funds raised for a conservative business constitutes ‘intolerance.’”
