Google has announced that it will allow creators who were permanently removed from YouTube over alleged violations of past COVID-19 or election content policies to rejoin the platform.
The decision was revealed in a letter to Congress by a company lawyer, who stated that the Biden administration applied pressure on Google to remove certain content—even when it did not clearly break YouTube’s rules at the time. The policy change affects both high-profile accounts and smaller creators, including figures who were previously banned for alleged misinformation.
Under the new approach, channels that were terminated under now-defunct policies will be eligible for reinstatement, provided they meet current community guidelines. The shift also follows Republican investigations into Big Tech content moderation practices.
