Greg Abbott, governor of Texas, blamed President Joe Biden and his administration for the current border issue in a speech he gave on Sunday. This comes as the end of Title 42 is forecast to significantly exacerbate the border crisis this week.
This was in response to “Fox News Sunday” anchor Shannon Bream’s question regarding comments made by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, where Abbott made his remarks. Mayorkas said that the border is sealed and blamed Congress for the immigration crisis.
Bream said that the White House is trying to pin the immigration crisis in part on Abbott because of his efforts to relocate some illegal immigrants to blue states due to Texas’ inability to accommodate them.
Small border communities like Del Rio and Eagle Pass can’t manage the volume of people coming across the border, so we’re busing them across the nation,” Abbott explained. Busing people from the smaller communities to larger ones is essential. Everything you mentioned about Mayorkas was either a lie or a gross misunderstanding, so I’ll add that to what I have said. He claims that the border is now sealed. Everyone in the United States is aware that the border is not sealed and has become more accessible.
According to Abbott, the border crisis was much alleviated during Trump’s presidency but has since worsened under Biden’s watch. “It’s only since Biden came in and got rid of all those policies and told the whole world that the border is now open that we’ve had all this chaos,” Abbott claimed.
Abbott mocked Vice President Biden’s proposal to deploy a small force to the 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexico border, stating that Biden was only sending the military there “to do paperwork, and he’s not going to secure the border.”
