Grieving Mother Accuses Bullying as She Challenges Validity of Daughter’s Marriage After Tragic Death

A tragic incident has led to a complex legal and emotional battle, as revealed by the mother of a bride who was killed on her wedding day. Samantha Miller, 34, lost her life in a car accident involving an allegedly intoxicated driver on April 28 at Folly Beach, South Carolina, while celebrating with her new husband, Aric Hutchinson, 36, who suffered severe injuries.

The driver, 26-year-old Jamie Lee Komoroski, was reportedly three times over the legal alcohol limit when her vehicle collided with the couple’s golf cart.

Amidst her profound grief, the bride’s mother, Lisa Miller, has initiated legal action against her son-in-law. She has accused Hutchinson of fraud and of acting against her daughter’s memory in relation to insurance and settlement funds resulting from the accident.

Lisa Miller has turned to social media to express her anguish, sharing heart-wrenching videos on Facebook and TikTok where she discusses the bullying she feels she’s enduring on top of her sorrow. In one video, she tearfully describes the emotional trigger caused by having to update emergency contact information that previously included her daughter.

She advocates the therapeutic nature of expressing grief and emphasizes her right to share her feelings openly. “One little thing can send you spiraling, but crying is a release, and there’s no shame in it,” Miller asserts in one of her posts.

The dispute extends to the validity of Samantha’s marriage to Hutchinson and the rightful management of her estate. Lisa Miller has sought to have Hutchinson removed as executor and has questioned the legitimacy of their marriage, with a significant legal settlement at stake.

In October, a wrongful-death lawsuit was settled with two South Carolina bars that allegedly served Komoroski alcohol before the accident, as well as an insurance company. While the settlement amounts remain undisclosed, they are subject to a judge’s approval.

Lisa Miller has taken her challenges to court, seeking intervention in the settlement process. She alleges that Hutchinson is trying to exclude her from the settlement against her daughter’s wishes. “Aric is dishonoring my daughter by going against what she would have wanted,” Miller stated.

Her lawyer, Jerry Meehan, has labeled Hutchinson’s actions as secretive and motivated by financial gain, stressing Lisa’s intent to protect her daughter’s estate and its rightful heirs.

The marriage’s validity has been scrutinized since it was not registered until after Samantha’s death, and discrepancies were found in the statements made by Hutchinson’s relatives.

Hutchinson, for his part, expressed his dismay at the unfolding events and his intention to be fair by offering to share the settlement with Lisa Miller. His attorneys have dismissed the challenges to the marriage as distractions and defended the offer made to Lisa as a gesture of goodwill, not a legal obligation.

The situation remains tense, with both sides entrenched in their positions as the legal proceedings and the family’s personal struggles continue to unfold in the aftermath of Samantha Miller’s untimely death.
